Another storyline involves closeted gay Mormon lawyer Joe Pitt, his Valium-addicted wife Harper, and his mentor, the powerful lawyer Roy Cohn, who is also secretly gay. The play weaves together themes of identity, politics, religion, and human connection, incorporating supernatural elements as Prior is visited by an angel who tasks him with becoming a prophet and halting human progress.
